Advertising Certificates

Souder's Cheap Store

The advertisment at the right is from the July 2, 1878 of the Chattanooga Daily Times newspaper. The advertisment was from front page in upper right on the first day Adolph Ochs was publisher. Adoph Ochs purchased the New York Times in 1896.

Note the comment about City leaders confiscating the baloon.

Henry H. Souder's Cheap Store note is similar to the $ 5 U.S. large size Demand Note note of 1861. It advertises bargains in simple and fancy goods at 211 Market St. in Chattanooga at the sign of the balloon from 1873 to 1879. This type of advertising note from the south is very scarce.
