Promissory NotesThree notes are known from the Hiwassee Railroad in Athens, TN a $1, $3 and a $5. The $1 $ $3 are listed as R-14 by Garland, The $5 is not listed in Garland. The notes have two engraver / printers Danford, Underwood and Co., New York across at left and Underwood, Bald, Spencer & Huffy, Philada. across at right. The notes are promissory notes to be paid six months after completion of the railroad to the written in person or the bearer. The reverse of the notes has a plain reverse. The $1 displayed is hand dated 1 March, 1844.
