Proof Sheets
Copies of the First National Bank proof sheet from "National Numismatic
Collection" at the Smithsonian are illustrated. Jim Hughes, from the Smithsonian,
and Peter Huntoon retrieved the proof sheets from the files and provided
the copies.
The first proof sheet is from the first charter notes created by the
American National Bank Note Company -- see logo in edge design at bottom
center. This proof sheet probably exists it was rejected by the treasury
because the word "The" is too small on the $10s and in a different font
on the $20 -- see note at the bottom.

The second proof sheet is from after the bank re-chartered. Date changed
from 1-1-1866 to 10-26-1885. It was also created by the American National
Bank Note Company.

The Bureau of Engraving and Printing took over designing and printing the notes

The fourth proof sheet shows the second charter $5 notes. The BEP logo is in the upper right corner.
